うつ病がテレビや新聞、雑誌などで取り上げられることも多く、インターネットで情報収集も容易となった今、うつ病に対する社会的な認知度は非常に高くなったということができます。
しかし、うつ病者本人にとっては、自分がうつ病であるということを自覚していない、あるいは認めることができないという実態も確かにあります。
病気の理解や障害の受容は、障害者が国や地方自治体などから支援を受けるために欠かすことができないものです。
精神障害者保健福祉手帳の取得や障害者手帳の取得なども、本人が障害を認識していなければできません。
ここでいう「障害を受け入れる」ということは、リハビリテーションで使用される「障害受容」といった厳密な用語ではなく、うつ病などの障害が自分にあることを自覚するぐらいの意味です。
この自己認識は、医師の診断内容と一致していなくとも問題ありません。
何らかのかたちで自分がうつ病であるということを受け入れていなければ、障害年金の手続きを行うことは困難であることを理解してください。
とはいえ、当初は自分がうつ病であることを認めていなかった場合でも、私たちとともに障害年金の手続きを進めていく中でうつ病や障害に対する認識が深まる場合もあります。
なので、うつ病であることを受け入れることが必要といっても、障害年金の請求手続き前に必ずなくてはならないとまで考える必要はありません。
私たちや家族と一緒に少しずつうつ病という障害を理解していくのも、一つの方法といえます。
